Answer» I wondered why the spell checker stopped on every word and found that it is using a French dictionary. No idea why and no alternative option. I have Word 6, and I have Access 2007.Hmm, you have Word 6.0, which dates back to 1993, and you have Access from the latest version of Office. That's quite a combination. Quote from: robirdman on December 05, 2009, 06:08:00 PM I have Word 6, and I have Access 2007. There is no problem with spell checks in either of them so they don't use the French dictionary.OK, but what spell check in OE? That's the issue here, not spell check in Word or Access. Did you read the reference I posted in my previous reply? Regarding your problem with AOL email, I have no idea. I think I'd switch to a gmail (Google Mail) account; gmail supports IMAP. Why did I refer to the spell checkers in Word and Access? I first said that OE was using a French dictionary and I didn't know why. The first reply said that OE uses the Word dictionary, and the second said it was the Office dictionary. I don't have Office (which includes Access), but stand-alone Access, and neither Word nor Access is using a French dictionary. Therefore the original question of why OE is using a French dictionary remains a mystery. Regarding the second problem, it has been suggested to change from OE as a solution but OE has been fine for my non-IMAP mail and I don't want to complicate things with a second service. I would not longer be able to drag and drop mail from AOL IMAP folders into the non-IMAP folders. Perhaps someone familiar with the program may have solutions but it is looking pretty unlikely now. In the link I posted, this issue with Office 2007 and OE is explained and a solution was given there. Whether you detect a dictionary or not in Access 2007, I suspect the Office 2007/OE SCENARIO still applies, which means that even though an English version of Office 2007 is installed, OE appears to be using a French dictionary. Word 6.0 is so old that I doubt that having it installed provides a dictionary to OE. I'm surprised it even works with Windows XP. The solution given in the aforementioned link, which is the same suggested by rthompson80819 in this discussion thread: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/spelloe.html . So, there's no need to belabor this issue; you have a solution.I did not read carefully enough when I saw the post saying that OE used the Word or Office directory, since these programs didn't have the problem. Rereading and following the link, I was then surprised to find out how COMMON this French dictionary thing is, since it seemed so strange. The download solved the problem, while seemingly not modifying the other programs dictionaries which had custom words. Thanks very much for the help on this problem. |
