Answer» I have just completed a clean reinstall of my XP Home edition 5.1 SP3 using the disc package provided by Dell on our old faithful Dimension 1100/b110 system. I have spent some time in researching the configuration of the various accounts to come up with what I would like. In trying to avoid the many pitfalls associated with these matters including being locked out of your own system, inability to access Admin account, and losing inheritance or parent folder properties. For security purposes I have set up two limited user accounts for my wife and I for everday use online. It is my understanding that the SAFEMODE menus are not accessible to anyone with these permissions, YET I just did. I must be missing something. Also I want to HIDE NOT DELETE the OWNER account icon on the welcome screen while still being able to access the Administrator and Owner accounts; which then can only be accessed from SAFEMODE. See the catch there? Anyhow, that is where I am at. Thank you for listening. In Windows XP Home edition the administrator account is visible in SAFE mode. You should set a strong password for that account. One you can remember.
If you need more protection, consider using a password in the BIOS.
Would you like to know how to make a hidden user account in Windows XP? That user is not visible on the start up screen. You have to type in the user name.
Howdy, I did not intend to stray so far from my quest for an answer, but it happens when researching subject matter. I have not made any moves on this yet. I did set up a password for the Admin account. I also have one for the Owner account since it has Admin permissions and control. YES!I would like to know how to have a hidden log on by merely typing in the name. That would be a suitable solution in regard to my post. That would be great! Can you provide me the information or direct me to a source that explains how? Most Windows version have this feature available. The hidden user is not seen on the welcome screen, but if you go into user accounts, he is there.
If you use BING as your search engine, you can look up 'Hidden User Account' and get results like these: http://nerdyloft.com/2006/10/23/hidden-user-accounts-control-in-windows-xp/

Here is a post specific to Windows 7 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/16378967-8a39-4aef-85e4-d859a71648d3
You have to edit the REGISTRY. So you also need to make a backup of the registry as a precaution. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry Hope you have fun with these! Thank you for the information. I will check on that straightaway, if I don't fall asleep first. I am running XP PRO and XP Home on two separate towers. I have no experience with Windows 7, but I would like to entertain the POSSIBILITY that similarity makes this feasible across the board for most MSoft users. I will update back here on on Wednesday with a result for the INFO. Thank you for your time and interest in assisting me with my inquiry.
