Solve : Ownership of files? |
|
Answer» I am running vista home edition as administrator. i have an ebook 300g with everything i had on my old computer (ran xp prof. ed.). i am having trouble getting all the files off of it. some show up but i know for a fact there are more. mainly pics, movies, music, etc. i have found that i have to take ownership of everything on the drive but it is not an option. could some one please walk me through this or SUGGEST a program to extract and/or navigate this drive. thank you in advance.Try Here...i tried that but i don't have the option of take ownership. not even a securty tab. i have tried in safe mode and REG.Try TAKING ownership of the whole drive instead of individual folders...this has worked fine for me.i don't have the option of taking ownership in reg or safe mode. i found an elevated command prompt to take ownership but i am not good at all with command prompt (or windows apparently) the advise u give is the same as everyone else but for some reason i don't have the option of taking ownership. what would the commands be? my ebook is on drive j: i really appreciate your help."File ownership can not be applied on insecure file systems; there is no support for ACLs." I emailed the manufactor of the external hard drive(western digital) and told them they could either tell me how to get my kids pics off of this P.O.S. or refund my money. OOOHHHH, I wonder if they will take me seriously.Wish i'd have known it was an eBook Western Digital...if you use the software that ships with those it uses a propietary file system DESIGNED to supposedly be more SECURE but everything i've read is less than a glowing review. |
