Solve : PC freeze?

Answer»

Hi, I'm not sure how to search for similar topic so i decided to start a new one.
Well, here is the problem.
Whenever I use my PC it freezes itself, it doesn't have a specific time of when it begins but it just does. Sometimes when watching movie, surfing net or doing absolutely nothing at all. When it freezes, it doesn't just freeze like the old computer, where you can press Alt + Ctrl + Del and restart computer. When mine freezes, it freezes the WHOLE thing. Meaning, the screen basically turns into a picture, nothing moves, mouse freezes, keyboard freezes (the num lock or caps lock key doesn't turn light on), and the motherboard seems like it's still running. I've checked the monitor and made sure it wasn't the problem, my harddrive is still functioning, so it's not the problem. My guess was the display card or the mother board but I'm not sure because this happens whenever I reinstall windows for as far as i could remember. I'm really confused about it, just wondering if anyone else knows what the problem might be. P.S. my CPU was not at max.

I'm using: Win XP, Service PACK 2. INTEL(R), Pentium 4, 2.80GHz, 1.25 GB RAM

I don't know what this means. So it has always done this? Is that a legal XP installation? Home or Pro?

This could be HARDWARE or software. Just because something runs doesn't mean it runs correctly.

I would check the RAM with the free diagnostics at www.memtest86.com, then check the hard drive with the free diagnostics from the appropriate hard drive maker's site.

Obviously the RAM has been upgraded, as no machine comes standard with 1.25 gigs. You need to make sure that it is not causing a conflict.

Remove all RAM and add in cards and reseat.

Post back with your findings.
