Solve : PC freezes after going into Safe Mode?

Answer»

my computer got virus (Brave Sentry) last night, and I ran the Spybot and cleaned it. After I restarted the PC, it told me error on disk or something, so I forcely shut it down, and I turned it on again. Because the Window can't start properly, the screen asking if want to use Safe Mode APPEARED. So I went into Safe Mode, but nothing happened, all black screen; the red light is not flashing, the num lock freezes, not even noise from hard drive. Can anyone please help me? how can I get it fixed? or is it just dead? how about the data in hard drive? all gone?  Personally, I'd recommend that you use the "Start From last Known Good Configuration" option first. This is (usually) done by pressing a certain function button at the computer boot-up, though what button that is varies with the different computers, I believe.

Even so, I suggest you try that. There might be a better solution, though, so you might want to hold off until someone with a bit more computer authority than me can check this thread, though this process is teh first to IMMEDIATELY come to mind in terms of minimizing data-loss is Safe Mode will not work.thanks for your suggestion, though I am not quite sure which bottons to press. But all keys are not responding after choosing either Safe Mode or the regualr Window, not even ctrl+alt+delete..... :-/
or is there anything I can change in the BIOS menu? I can get in there by pressing delete when it first starts.Eh, messing with the BIOs isn't remotely my area of knowledgeability, so you'd have to wait for someone else on that, unfortunately.  :-/

However the process I suggested isn't performed while in Safe Mode, but rather as an alternative choice for going into safe mode. What type of computer do you have, specifically (OS, brand, etc)?my PC is custom built...
I can choose not goint to safe mode, just the regular window, but the result is the same, still get black screen.....HM...Well, what about the O.S.? Windows XP, 2000, 98...?it's XP, sorry I thought I mentioned it in my first post. well let this be known spybot search and destroy does nothing...........it might find the errors but does not fix them......and its for adware and spyware not virus's ...........maybe u got a boot virus some how......anyways ..u can try this ..click start in the run command type in msconfig .... in the start up tab..uncheck any unknown programs u dont know..click apply then exit w/o rebooting............. for anti virus check out http://avast.com its free for 90 days or what not its a simple program but most users will use avg its your choicehttp://www.grisoft.com/doc/trial/lng/us/tpl/tpl01thanks spazz, but the PC is just sitting on the black screen after I choose Safe Mode, nothing happens. or is there a way that can get me into a place where I can click "Start"? I thought the machine did not run. How is this relevant?

Come on people, get a grip. If you don't have a reasonable solution, and can't communicate without ebonics (u no whut i mean)....and that.....which I guess passes for PUNCTUATION..... just pass.   Sometimes safe mode takes a very long time to load. (Don't ask me why, it should be fast)
Are you giving it a good 5 minutes?yes, Fed. I waited at least for 20 min. but nothing happened... is it possible that all my data are gone? In your first post you mentioned 'error on disk', you should test your HD.
Do you have a genuine XP disk?how can I test my HD? should I take it out and bring it to a store? and should I just install the XP again? that way all the data in HD will be gone, right? :-? Quote

It's not sure whether or not all of your data will have to be erased. At the moment, the data should still be on there, and if there is an immediate work-around for it, then no, your data will not be lost, but if there's not a quick fix for it, be aware that you may lose some data or have to restore, which will erase all the data on there. The best thing to do is to back-up new files CONSTANTLY. You can't over-stress doing this. Buy a pack of blank CD-Rs and back-up at least once every two weeks to a month. Computers are not invincible by any means, and you'll feel bad when you've acquired a lot of new data that you haven't backed up and your computer suddenly requires restoration.

However, no. None of your data should be lost yet, but whether or not you will have to lose it remains to be known.
