Answer» i just went to ubuntu and its still glitchey!!1B...use the Recovery Console and follow the directions posted for that step... 1A=pass After how many passes through Memtest 86? Quote 1B=cant find pe on link You have to make it using the instructions in that link. It's not just a "download and run" (otherwise, Microsoft would consider it a violation of their EULA). Otherwise, a variation of what Patio said: Quote from: patio on July 20, 2010, 07:58:00 PM 1B...use the Recovery Console and follow the directions posted for that step... Since there's no Recovery Console in Windows 7, you can either boot from the Windows 7 DVD, select "Repair My Computer" and get to the command PROMPT that way or borrow someone else's Windows 7 PC, click Start -> All Programs -> Maintenance -> Create a System Repair Disc. Boot from the repair disc. Quote 1C=pass GOOD battery? How old is it? More information than "pass" would be nice. Otherwise, that's no better than someone being declared dead without an autopsy to determine the cause. Quote 1D=pass No PCMCIA cards or anything (like a cellular modem)? Quote 1E=sometimes past 80 80 CELSIUS or 80 FAHRENHEIT? If Celsius, then no wonder your LAPTOP is flipping out!!!!!!! In fact, I'm going to agree with Patio on this one and say this is the problem, as: Quote from: StealFalcon on July 20, 2010, 07:57:15 PM i just went to ubuntu and its still glitchey!! ...which eliminates everything under 2) and 3). So...CONFIRM that it's 80C and not 80F. If it is, then you need to a) Take the laptop apart and clean out that CPU fan. I suggest having a look at the guide on HP's website: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01295820.pdf If you're not comfortable with doing this, take the laptop to a qualified service technician to do so. If the CPU fan is completely dead, then you'll have to get a replacement--something like this: http://www.pelltechnology.com/Products/?id=3205702&ProductName=HP_Pavilion_dv2727ca_Laptop_Heat_Sync_Heatsink_Assembly_Fan_ b) Get yourself one of these if a) is not keeping it cool enough (shoot for under 50C under full load): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834998921&cm_re=laptop_cooling_pad-_-34-998-921-_-Product I'm sure there's better one's out there, but you get the idea. battery is as old as the pc but still holds a charge for 3-4 hours 2passes on memtest 80 celsiusand you never said what fourm Quote from: StealFalcon on July 21, 2010, 05:06:18 AM and you never said what fourm Quick Google search showed a post with the same computer name and specs here: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/516350.page That's what I was referring to. In any case: Quote from: StealFalcon on July 21, 2010, 05:05:01 AM battery is as old as the pc but still holds a charge for 3-4 hours Battery's fine and Memtest is okay, then. 80 Celsius is VERY HIGH. Think about it: 100 Celsius is the temperature of boiling water! So Patio hit it right on the money. The problem is that your CPU is trying to fry an egg, not process your data! Previous suggestions stand: a) Take the laptop apart and clean out that CPU fan.
