Answer» Hello - new to this forum so let me know if you need any info i dont supply readily.
The situation is this:
My boyfriend's computer (gateway laptop, windows XP) is possessed. Basically its been running slower and slower. Last week it took a good 15 MINS to log on from the windows XP user login screen and boot up into the account. Then after boot up a little window WOULD pop up that said "windows installing...." with a cancel button and nothing ELSE. Now when you try to boot up normally, it gets to the windows XP user login screen, you can input the password for the account and then it just sits there .... doesnt do anything.
I can boot up in safe mode fine with no problems.. It wont connect to the internet however...
Upon doing a few searches on the problem i suspect that his Norton Anti Virus SOFTWARE has become corrupted somehow and is hanging up the system.
SOOOO i tried to uninstall Norton in safe mode, which it wont let you do. And since i cant boot up the computer in normal mode, im at an impasse on what to do.
Help!!?
You might try this:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307852/en-usRepair Install of XP I suggest reading thru it to get familiar with the procedure and printing out a copy for reference.
NOTE:If done correctly the machine will have all Programs and Data intact...if done incorrectly you risk losing everything...So im guessing theres no way to uninstall Norton.... without doing the repair of XP....
i am afraid that if i repair xp then it will have the same problem, because i think the problem is with norton...
i will give it a try though.Try this: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
