I cannot download anything on my computer, it will dowload to 99% then stops. I have a desktop with Internet Explorer, I was advised to try and use Firefox but I cannot download it,as I said it will only download 99%. I am a not  computer literate at all so any help and advise woud be very helpful.
Any ideas how to rectify this please?Welcome.

Can you download Firefox on another PC and transfer it with a memory stick or CD?Can you tell me how I transfer onto a cd? Sorry as I said I am pretty useless when it comes to computer knowledge,maybe I could download it at an intenet cafe or the library even...Did this just start or has it always been this way?
Have you emptied the temporary internet files folder?
Have you tried increasing the size of the temporary internet files folder?It has been this way for about a  month or so,its has not always been like this. how do i empty the temporary internet files folder? and how do I increase it?Control Panel - Internet Settings
On the General Tab under Browsing History Click on DELETE and make sure Temporary Internet Files is checked, then click on DELETE on the bottom of the page. Back in the General Tab under Browsing History click on SETTINGS. Whatever the disk space is set for, double it, click Apply (or OKAY) and Okay again and close Internet Options. Reboot. Try to download something again. Let us know what happens.

We may end up deleting your index.dat FILE with ccleaner as the next step if needed.thank you very MUCH for your simple instructions,I am going to try this. I will let you know how it goes,thanks again  I deleted my internet browsing history and increased it from 250 to 500 and then re-started my computer,but unfortunately I can still only download 99%.What are you DLoading and from where ? ?

Also what type of connection do you have ?
Its any download really ,I have been trying to download Skype and Firefox and also some emails I have received I cannot download the attachments.

Connection? I have broadband is that what you mean,sorry I am so backward.What exactly happens when you DLoad...and where are you saving the files to ? ?

INCLUDE the FULL error message...when I try to download I get the box which says 'run' or 'save', if I click 'run' it starts to download and you see the little flie thing going over to  the other side of the box so you know its downloading and it tells me what % is done,then it gets to 99% and it just stops,as if it is stuck, I don't get a message it really does just stop dead there at 99%,no error message at all. If I try and save it the same thing happens.
