hi i have a problem with the installation of win xp on my laptop.. because when i tried installing win xp on it there is an error message the will says:

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.

please help me...

thanks in advance...

1) What make/model laptop?

2) What OS is on the computer now?

3) Why are you installing a new OS?

4) Is your hard drive shown correctly in the BIOS?Quote from: drmsucks on September 08, 2008, 11:41:11 AM

4) Is your hard drive shown correctly in the BIOS?

1. the model of my laptop is toshiba satellite pro
2. as of now the os that is being installed is ubuntu version 8.04
3. because i want to shift from ubuntu to winxp..
4. of course, the drives are corectly shown in the BIOS
1) Is your hard drive a SATA drive?

2) Does the laptop have a floppy drive?

I suspect that you have SATA hard drive and XP does not have SATA drivers; therefore, XP cannot 'see' your hard drive.. Early on after booting from the XP CD, there is a message to "press F6" to install drivers; this is where you would need to supply the SATA drivers for the laptop motherboard from a floppy.

With no floppy drive, the only way that I know to install XP would be to 'slipstream' the SATA drivers onto the install disk. This is a good tutorial: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Install-Windows-XP-On-SATA-Without-a-Floppy-F6-47807.shtml.

Or, if the laptop meets the hardware requirements, you could opt for Vista.

Best of luck and post back!yapz i have a sata drive.. but i don't have a floppy drive...

i tried your suggestion and i FOLLOW the steps on the SITE but when on the step where in i am going to locate the driver that to be integrated there is no file that will appear although i have i already located it. do you have any suggestion where i can find a sata driver for my laptop?

the model of my laptop is TOSHIBA SATELLITE PRO U300I can't find your model on the Toshiba site - there is no U300.

a) Do you have XP recovery disks or a recovery partition on the hard drive that you can use? What OS did the computer ship with?

b) I recommend installing XP from a) because you will need more drivers than the SATA driver and the recovery disk/partition will have all of the correct drivers for your hardware.

c) If a) won't work, post back the correct model number and we'll keep looking!yes, i have an xp recovery disk...

when we first brought the laptop it was xp installed but when my brother used it he installed linux..

and now i want it to be back on xp...

i already tried your first suggestion but there is an error that will appear....

that is really the model of my laptop... toshiba satellite pro u300Quote from: exceed01 on September 11, 2008, 11:18:44 PM

I can't locate that model on the Toshiba site - is it possible that your computer is a Satellite, not a Satellite Pro?yes it is a toshiba recovery disk.. i don't really memorize the error the it gives.. but its like something it is not recognize... because when i used the the recovery disk the OS of my laptop is ubuntu..

yah, that's also my problem because i can't find the satellite pro u300 on the site... but when i research on yahoo there is a u300 satellite pro... but i can't find driver for it.

i am really stock on this thing...please help!!!...Okay, let's try to boot from the recovery CD.

1) Make sure that the laptop is set to boot from the CD. F12 may work to select a boot DEVICE - look for a message IMMEDIATELY after startup, or just press and hold the F12 key immediately after you power on. If not, enter Setup (by pressing and holding a certain key immediately after powering on - probably F2 for the Toshiba; look for a message that says "To enter setup press XX." If no message is displayed, press and hold the ESC key. If ESC and F2 don't work, try DEL.) Once in the BIOS setup, look for a Boot Order page or Boot Menu, select the CD as the first boot device, "Save and Exit."

2) Restart the computer with the recovery disk in the CD. Follow the directions on the recovery disk.

3) If an error is encountered, write it down.
