Answer» Hi Ok this is quite a big problem i fear...
My computer wont load up the Icons or start menu, it doesnt even load up Windows properly: When i get to the desktop background screen i cannot open up task manager to run explorer. I also cannot run the XP CD to repair it becuase it wont let me hit f8, or run it automaticly, it just flashes a black screen and goes into windows pro
This is bad becuase i need all of the software on my computer :-/
Ill be very gratefull to the person who can help me
Thanx ScampiWhen Windows loads, has the taskbar disappeared as well? When you shutdown your computer, do you have to cold BOOT it?
Gizmo73 Erm cold boot? But yes there is no taskbar... only the desktop background :S
SEnter your computer's BIOS (usually by repeatedly pressing F1, F2, Esc or Del when you switch the PC on). FInd the option to select which device to boot from first - set that to CD>. Pop in your XP CD and reboot. Follow the onscreen instructions.Thats just the thing.... it doesnt ask me to go into BIOS. Sorry if i never made that clear It flashes a black screen for about a second!! before going to the users in windows.
SWhat make/model is your PC?Its an IBM... cant say the model IM sorry.Download and run Belarc Advisor (it's free) and you will know the exact model and a LOT more!
www.belarc.comHow am i meant to load anything onto that computer :S Its imposible
SOn the outside of the case should be a 7 digit identification number like xxxx-xxx.
What happened before all of this? It WOULD be a strange thing to happen spontaneously. Are you the only person using this machine? No I think i had a trojan... :-/
My computer gave me a weird Error, then shut its self down :S
Bit of a PICKLE

The method of entering the BIOS on IBMs varies. A couple of possibilities: hold down both mouse buttons during boot-up; or press F1
In the latter case, start tapping the F1 key from the second you switch on the PC, until you enter the BIOS setup screen.Thank You
Ill try it
SI dont know if this will help but give it a go. to get your icons back you will need a flash memory stick (PLUGS into usb) and have on it a shortcut to %SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe. Then open up the shortcut and type regedit. it will then open up registry editor where you then need to navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\explorer\Advanced then find HideIcons double click on it and change the 1 to a 0. This will then show your icons. Then hopefully you will have a shortcut to my computer on your desktop. If you do open it and open c:\ and do a search for rstrui.exe. open up the program and roleback your computer to a date that the computer was working fine. Then to finish do a virus scan because you more then likely have a virus\trojan. Hope this helpsThank You Also
