Answer» Hey all. Im new here but I've had this problem ever since getting my laptop. It is a Toshiba Satellite and I've had it for about a year and a half now. Ever since I got it, system restore did not work. I've tried EVERYTHING that I've found on the internet about deleting all your restore points, CHECKING to make sure all your updates are on, and I even followed all the directions on the microsoft help page itself. I really need help now. When I try to do a system restore, it tells me "could not restore computer blah blah blah". Well thats only my first problem.
The reason I need to do a restore is this: The other day a friend sent me a program that changes your voice when using a mic. I installed it, but my mic stopped working, so I uninstalled and restarted. Well now my mic wont work at all. With the help of 3 different people I've been through ALL of my mic settings and nothing is set wrong. Nothing is muted, nothing is set to low volume, everything is checked. Its like it wiped out my mic input or something.
So, witout being able to do a system restore, how the heck do I get my microphone to work??? anybody? please help! this has been driving me crazy and I cant find any answers on the internet!!!!!First thing...your microphone..
Check your DEVICE Manager through ControlPanel/System and then click the Hardware TAB and then the Device Manager button.
Do you see any yellow exclamation points? What we're looking for is a problem with your sound card. If this is the issue, we'll need to locate a driver for it.
As far as System Restore goes, make sure it is turned on...
1) Start/Control Pnel/System and then click the System Restore tab. Here you can turn System Restore on/off.
Keep us posted...Thanks for your response!
I checked both of what you said and each is as it should be :-/
Any other suggestions? You may want to scan your system for malware...
If you have any malware protection installed on your computer, update it first.
Turn System Restore off and boot into Safe Mode.
While in Safe Mode...do a complete system scan to see if anything is found. Once the scan is complete, reboot Windows, normally, and turn System Restore BACK on...and post results, please?
Thank you...That sounds like a good thought, but, my computer has been like that since I purchased it, and I scan weekly with both Norton and Adaware. I just think the problem is because someone messed up while it was being made.Maybe you could read the below links.I believe you can find your sound drivers at the second link.
