Answer» Hi, I have a friend who has a fairly old computer that she wants to GET working for her KIDS to be able to play games. The cpu is inside and all the ports are usb. When you start up, before the start up menu, a message comes up saying that a NEW usb hardware has been detected and searching for installation components etc. At this point the mouse, keyboard and cntrl-alt-del does not work, you can only switch off manually. In safe mode everything works perfectly. I checked device manager and the only fault I could find was that there were two mice installed. I DELETED one,but no luck. I also tried to restore the registry to no avail. It doesn't matter if we loose all saved info, as long as we can get it working. How can I relace normal mode with safe mode? Or as a last resort what is the correct command/parameter in msdos to format? Any ideas?
Thanks kdTry starting in safe mode, in device manager REMOVE all usb peripherals, and uninstall all usb ports, leaving all peripherals disconnected reboot the PC, allow windows to find and reinstall the usb ports, and connect your mouse and keyboard, if all is well connect any other usb peripherals one by one and wait for the "your device is connected and working properly" message.
