Solve : Please help with my internet connection issue I can't find an answer!!!?

Answer»

I've searched for an answer to this question all over, but I can't find anything that works.

I hadn't used my Dell XPS 420 desktop for a while because I broke my keyboard.  Today I got a new wireless keyboard in and started up my computer.  I connected to the internet fine (my apartment has ethernet and wireless that works but I was using the ethernet connection).

While using the internet, my Kaspersky antivirus program started detecting threats and actually got shut down.  When I tried to start up Kaspersky again it said it got corrupted and would not start.  Eventually it started and updated again but things didn't seem right.  I decided to install Avast antivirus and run a full system scan to make sure I wasn't infected.  I like Avast and it TURNED up no threats to my computer.

This is where the big problem started happening.  Even though my desktop is connected to the internet (this problem applies to both the ethernet and the wireless connection) and my networks and sharing center says it's connected, when I attempt to open up a browser like firefox or internet explorer to use the internet, no websites will load.  However, antivirus PROGRAMS can update and windows can update, so it MUST be connected.

I have tried turning off proxy settings... and I can't get my computer to start in safe mode, and it seems to take a considerably larger amount of time to start up the computer since this problem happened.

I need to get my browsers to work again!

Please help! I have no CLUE where to turn now

Thank You,

How did you break our keyboard? Are you sure that is all you broke? Quote from: corysk8_1 on March 02, 2011, 09:39:59 PM

Have you tried UNINSTALLING Avast? Quote

Do you mean uninstalling Kaspersky first?
