Answer» alright so my ms paint hasnt been working for a while now and when i click it ..a ltlle pop up comes up and SAYS mspaint has caused an error in MFC42.DLL mspaint will now close

SYMPTOMS When you start WordPad or Paint, you may receive the following error message:

CAUSE This behavior can occur if the registry entries for WordPad or Paint are damaged. Back to the top
RESOLUTION WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To resolve this issue, uninstall WordPad and Paint, delete the registry KEYS for the programs, and then reinstall WordPad and Paint:
1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs. 2. Click the Windows Setup tab, click Accessories, and then click Details. 3. Click the WordPad and Paint check boxes to clear them, click OK, and then click OK. 4. Using Registry Editor, delete the following registry keys and then restart your computer:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Applets\Wordpad
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Applets\Paint 5. Start the Add/Remove Programs tool as described in step 1. 6. Click the Windows Setup tab, click Accessories, and then click Details. 7. Click the WordPad and Paint check boxes to select them, click OK, and then click OK.

Back to the top alright not gonna lie...im not exactly the expert on computers and i dotn exactly undertand from step 4 on can you please give me a further explination..i love my paint and i gotta get it back to get to step 4 you need to open the regestry editor. to open the editor simply click start, then run, then type in "regedit" without the qoutes.
once in reg edit, you can proceed with step 4 and so on.
