|
Answer» i need to stop a limited user account from being able to change the desktop image and i have searched how to do that and used the "prevent changing wallpaper policy" but it only works for an admin account whenever i go back to the limited user account the menu under the desktop tab is still there ! i have read that but how i can view the Local Computer Policy on a limited user pc You don't. Log into the computer with a user account that has administrative rights.but that only stops the admin from changing the wallpaperQuote from: lavender on December 13, 2009, 07:32:18 PM but that only stops the admin from changing the wallpaper Theoretically, it should stop all users under that user policy from doing so. Is this on a domain of any kind or is this just a small workgroup of computers? If it's on a domain, you should be enforcing the Group Policy from the domain controller and applying it to an organization unit (OU) full of users that you want to apply it to. You can only do so much to secure a workgroup... You might want to try this, though, if this computer is not on a domain: 1) Log into the computer with an account that has admin rights. 2) Temporarily GRANT the limited account admin rights. 3) Restart the computer. 4) Log into the account that you granted temporary admin rights to. 5) Follow the INSTRUCTIONS from cruisin702's post. 6) Restart the computer. 7) Log back into the account you granted temporary admin rights to. Test. Can the account change their wallpaper? If yes, CHECK your local Group Policy settings and make sure you didn't miss anything. If no, restart the computer again. 9) Log back into the computer with the admin account. 10) Remove the admin rights from the account so that it'll be a limited user again. 11) Reboot. 12) Log back into the computer with the limited user account. 13) Check to see if the wallpaper can be changed. If so, start over (or consider a better security model than what's built into the Windows XP PC).they are all part of a workgroup so can i change that from the main pc?Yes. In fact, the instructions I gave should be done from the main PC. |
