Answer»

For some reason Serive Pack 2 will NOT download on my computer. I get the notice that says I have updates available and I click it and go to download it and in the middle of it I get an error. It happens all the time, I've never been able to download it. Anyone know why this happens and what I can do to fix it?

Computer info:
Windows XP
Dell Dimension 8100

dl65 You can find the complete download on this page. SP2 download or cdWindows XP Serice Pack cannot install.

The product key used to install Microsoft Windows may not be valid. For more information about why you have received this error message, and steps you can take to resolve the issue visit www.howtotell.com

I've gone to the website but no luck on how to fix the problem or know what the problem is. Quote

What part of that sentence do you not understand?  Do you have the product key?  Is that Windows that you're using installed on any other computer?  Did you buy the computer new with Win XP pre-installed, or did you install Win XP on a computer that originally had a older OS?

......  Well , perhaps your legal product key has been used too many times recently ....... I would suggest a PHONE call to MicroSoft and if in fact you have a valid key , they will give you a new number ........BTW ...what message did you get when you visited the how to tell page ?

soybean, I understand the whole sentence, thank you very much.

The CD (to the best of my knowledge) has been used on two computers, my moms laptop and my desktop. I don't see why it shouldn't be valid.Armando.....
