Solve : problem starting windows xp?

Answer»

I have just run system RESTORE through P C angel supplied by savastore as my friends pc was infected with MALWARE i think. Having run system restore I cannot get any further than the welcome screen. It is telling me there is a problem with windows validation and whether i CLICK on yes or no to fixing this it just goes back to the user id screen.
Anyone got any ideas. You used a manufacturer's restore disc?

What is the exact message?will have to get back to you on that one i didnt write it down and need to connect his pc up to check.
bear with me please.
No worries.   Hi sorry about that back now.
The sequence of events is;
Power on and goes through usual startup till welcome screen, then displays following message,
Windows Product Activation
This copy of windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on
Do you want to activate Windows now
yes no

If i click on yes it goes to desktop then straight to users screen and logging off then is ready to start again ie click on user but when i do it displays same message again.

This pc was registered and windows activated prior to this problem. Probably 18 months or more ago
Any ideas

it wasnt a disc it was pre loaded and came up on startup press f10 to restore
Pc Angel supplied by savastore who suppled the pc

why? is that bad?Hmmm.......It's possible it completely restored the computer, back to when you haven't activated Windows YET.
(There have been many problems related to this).

Can you not activate Windows?it wont let me get to any point where i can just goes round in circles at the log on screen
You have the Windows XP CD handy?I dont have the copy that was installed on the pc, as i believe it would have been a multi instal version. I only have my copy of xp home and it is xp media centre edition on that pc. I do have the product on the side of the case though. Not 100% here but I would try performing a Repair Install with the Windows CD.
Try and borrow a CD.

More info of Repair Install here:

Don't forget to post back.   will do as soon as i have any success or failure. But off to work shortly so may be over weekend.

Again many thanks for advice
