Solve : Problem using backup in win XP? |
|
Answer» When I try to backup data, it says :searching for backup devices" it comes up with a list of destinations, but my cd-dvd drive (E in this case) does not show up in the list, so I added E:\ when I select it and hit "next" I get the FOLLOWING message "Backup file NAME could not be used". The file name comes up as E:\Backup.bkf. If I select another device such as a USB storage device it will back up. I want to use a cd or dvd but it won't let me. The cd-dvd burner will play audio and video fine so I don't think it's the cd-dvd. It may have somthing to do with the fact that it did not come up in the list to begin with. ThanksDo you have a direct writing program for the CDRW like InCD? What software are you using? You have to use something to use the CDR as a big floppy or storage device. What operating system? Has it ever worked as you envision? The OS is win XP pro. I am using xp to backup, Programs\acceseries\system tools\backup. This works when I use it to backup to my mass storage device. I don't understand the error message about the file name. I am at a loss. Thanks for the quick response.A hard drive is different than a CDR. What burning software is installed - Nero, etc., if any?OK I loaded Nero express 6 which has a backup program. all goes well until it asks for a disk I PUT in a cd-rw and it ejects it saying somthing like it is not the correct disk, put in the corect disk or configure the system to accept this type. Then it asks for a cd cd-r cd-rw dvd dvd-rw. I have tried all of them and the only one it will accept is a dvd. This burner was in another computer and worked fine with these same disks. |
