Answer» Today i was on my computer when something started making noises in box. It sounded like a clicking noise as if u were turning something on or off. I hit the restart button because the comp froze and when it was restarting it froze on the XP screen where it loads up. I shut it off completely and went to turn it on a little later and it turned on for about 1 sec then right back off again. Now when i try it, it wont even turn on a little. I dotn smell anything burning so i dont think its a short, any ideas?I'm afraid your hard drive MAY have physical damage. The heads very well may be scratched. If you are/were hearing clicks when your cpu would start up, this is most surely the case. If so, do NOT keep restarting your computer -- this CAUSES the hard drive to be worked per startup; this can worsen the the heads and you may lose all your data. Unfortunately, i don't know how to fix this. I know people can have clean-room pros fix a hard drive and save data. I've also heard that putting your HD in a freezer may help, however, i don't recommend that based on the fact that i've never heard anyone successfully utilizing that approach. Best advice: get advice from hard drive pros. Best luck to you.hi collins iam clement first of all check that your smps fan is running properly or blocked Today I was on my computer when something started making noises in the box. I don't smell anything burning so I dont think its a short, any ideas? Sounds like the drive has gone. I had the same thing happen and had to fit a new drive. (The old one was a 7,200 rpm 60Gb Maxtor Quantum Fireballp with a 2 Mb drive-cache.). I ended up fitting a 7,200 rpm 80Gb drive with an 8Mb drive-cache which allowed defrag to run four times faster when using Windows ME.) You'll need a specialist to recover any data on the drive platters, I tried the freezer METHOD but had no luck there, although some have done so. Apparently it is CAUSED by a microchip overheating. The use of the freezer is to drop the temperature sufficiently to give a longer time before the chip OVERHEATS again and, hopefully, to give just enough time to copy precious data. dang that really sux...so do u guys recommend i take it to a computer store or what?Well, if you need a specialist, then yes... The computer store would be the place to go... Good luck! [glb]Flame[/glb] |
