|
Answer» I am running Windows XP What is the name of that animated search bar with the doggy wagging it's tail? Do you need that tool? Burton ......what George Zissis ......is talking about is part of the Windows system ....we don't want him removing that ...... dl65 Is this the problem?: http://www.dougknox.com/images/xp_search_error.jpg Then you could try http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=9D1F0B73-259A-4A1B-93A4-F02C21BCB15AGzissis, you haven't said if you've scanned for viruses? Also what changes did you make when you fooled around with your system? Have you tried a system retstore? Burton, that dog is the Windows built in search feature. It's annoying and a waste of memory in my opinion. It can be turned off but not uninstalled. The Win 98 search feature is better in my opinion. You don't have to answer a millions searh wizard questions, just straight to the point. If it isn't broke don't fix it...Hi Burton, I followed your suggestion and clicked on the microsoft download link that you provided. This link required me to go through a Windows Validation process. I went through the process, was provided with a passcode, and downloaded the application. However, when I ran the application, all I got was a dialog box with the heading "Genuine Windows Hypertext Application". The box was empty and I have no idea as to what to do next. Can you go through the process to see if you get a different result? Thanks for your help. George ZissisNeil, My virus scans are up to date. I' feel stupid because I can't remember what the changes were. I believe they were I.E. related. Is there another way that I can do file searches in XP without using that icon on the start menu? Also, how do I restore? I did it once a long time ago, but don't remember the sequence. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378 or reboot pc and hold down the f8 key and chose last good CONFIG...i would still run a virus scan!Sorry I dont have time to go through the installation process as explained above, but I can inform you on the restore of a previous WinXP system backup. Go to Start - Run and type 'msconfig', then bottom button ('start system restore' or similar) and then select top option to choose a last system restore by date (or 3rd option for last system restore if no check points available there) |
