Solve : problems after windows reinstall?

Answer»

i have COMPAQ presario sr1200, reinstalled windows xp, no problem, added missing drivers from HP website. Then after doing updates, i go to click start, and lose my mouse and keyboard, cant do anything, reboot, then just black screen, this has HAPPENED twice in a row, i am thinking the video DRIVER, but i am getting from the website, so dont know whats going on.
any ideas?
thanks.I have a feeling that the updates CORRUPTED the boot sector or something else very important. Keep trying reboots, maybe a system recovery if possible and if this is a new install I would consider starting over and make sure to delete the hard drive partition and make a new one.

If you had to set the bios to boot from CD 1st for install, be sure and put it back to boot from the hard drive with windows on it after install.

good luck Quote

after doing updates
Including SP3?
Are you using USB mouse, and keyboard?no i didnt install sp 3, just other updates. I am doing a complete reinstall again, after deleting the partition. see what happens.ok, deleted partition, then made new one, formatted, installed windows, everything was good, installed windows updates , but not sp3, everything good on restart, then got another windows updated installed then it finished, i went to click restart now, everything froze. rebooted, windows starts to LOAD, then blue screen, curser with hour glass, but wouldnt move, frozen solid.
Any other ideas guys?
thanks again. What was the initial reason for reinstall?hey guys, i dont know the original reason for reinstalling, i did it again reinstall, after getting windows updates,  mouse and keyboard go out, reboot, and have no video or mouse or keyboard, can boot into safe mode a couple times, i went in took out the last update, still no good, then it boots and goes to black screen, cant even go into safe mode.
I changed out hard drive with a working one, and just kept rebooting, any ideas?
thanks.i think i finally figured it out, looks like it was a stick of ram, removed one, and voila, its all good.
