Broni,

I went to the restore point like you said. The last restore point that it would let me go to was that vista sp1 so I restored at that point. Everything seemed fine till the loop started all over again. That configuring 1 of 3 updated do not turn off you COMPUTER. Then the windows loading files, then the start up repair. Microsoft says it is because I did not complete updating to the Vista sp1 and they want me to down load it again. What do you think. Do I have to do this to fix my problem? Can I go without having that Vista SP1?

Thank you.

It sounds like Vista SP1 is trying to install again. You would have to either turn off Automatic Updates or hide the Vista SP1 update to prevent it from installing.

As for Vista SP1 not being critical, I'd have to somewhat disagree. Granted it's not as critical as, say, XP SP2, it's far more critical than XP SP3 in that it fixes A LOT of problems Vista had without it (such as Windows Updates going bonkers like it is now...)

To the OP, try this:

1) Start -> Control PANEL -> Windows Update.
2) If Service Pack 1 is showing up, hide it! Better yet, turn off automatic updates for now.
3) Restart your computer.
4) Create a restore point (this will be your best friend if the rest of these steps FAIL). Start -> Control Panel -> System Protection -> Create. Reboot again.
5) Download the full blown version of Windows Vista Service Pack 1:

NOTE: If you're running 64-bit Vista, the above link won't work. USE this one instead:

6) Wait a while. SP1 is HUGE!
7) When the download finishes, go ahead and install.
Eat dinner, watch TV, get a snack, whatever. SP1 takes about an hour to install...
9) Hopefully it finishes, and it solves a lot of other little problems Vista has before it. If it fails, then restore from the restore point you made in Step #4. We'll have to chalk this one up under "Problems Installing Vista SP1 That Microsoft Has No Solution For"
