Solve : problems with booting?

Answer»

recently my computer crashed and i had to reboot it. the safe mode selection screen came up, and i selected last known good configuration. then my screen froze and i was unable to proceed further. the same happens when i reboot and choose any other option, or when i leave the timer to count down to 0. i have tried accessing my computer via f8, but it freezes in a BLANK BLACK screen when i pick any option.

can anyone help me? thanks a lot in advance.ryan d...."can anyone help me?"......Perhaps if you provide a little more info ........like what o/s your using ,
what was going on just before this oddity occurred......My crystal ball is a wee bit fogged up ...lol
You might also mention if you have all the latest updates , Do you regularly scan for viruses and spyware?

please let us know

dl65  right. i'm using windows XP home edition, on a compaq presario. i was booting my computer when it froze at the startup screen and restarted. that happens sometimes so i wasn't worried, but this time - yeah. it refused to get past the safe mode selection. that's only happened once before, but i ended up sending it to a repairman who fixed it but didn't tell me what the problem was (except that i shouldn't leave my computer on for more than 3 hours). and yes, i do scan for viruses and spyware - not that often for viruses, but i just checked for spyware yesterday. i update windows as often as i see that little speech BUBBLE popping up at the system tray. Windows should *never* crash.

After 3 hours the problems start to show? Install a better cooling solution or better maintain the PC case.thing is, i've left my computer on for much longer periods of time without any problems. and this time it happened just as i started the computer up.

but now that the problem has already occurred, what i'd like to know is how to solve it. is there any way to bypass the safe-mode startup screen to BOOT my computer?

once again, any help is appreciated.Do have another PC in which you could install that HDD as a slave and then scan it for viruses? Quote

It also depends on the current temperature in your room. What are the temperatures displayed in the BIOS?

Do you clean your PC case on a regular basis?
