Solve : Problems with Screen resolution in XP?

Answer»

I just recently installed a new hard drive in my Dell computer. I reinstalled Windows XP. The icons on the screen are large. It won't let me install certain programs because of the resolution. I TRIED to troubleshoot and change the screen resolution but the SLIDER won't BUDGE. Do I need to unistall things in my device manager? Help! What video card do you have?
It sounds like you need to install the drivers.I am learning as I go, I have no idea what kind of video card I have. Is that SOMETHING I can access in my control panel? It would be easier for you to tell US the model of your Dell, for example a Dell Dimension 5200 or something.
If you don't know it (it should say somewhere) then go to Start --> Run --> type dxdiag and press enter.
Then click Save All Information and attach the report generated to your next post.you don't have any video drivers installed. Look for a cd that is labeled drivers and run the cd. If you don't have a drivers cd then we need to know the model number to tell you where to get the right drivers.I have a Dell Dimension 3000, nothing exceptional.Do you have a drivers CD?
Dell's support site gave me 4 different video drivers for your model.Bear in mind I am learning, what is a drivers cd?It will have come with your PC.
Just a normal CD, it will probably be labelled something like "Dell Dimension 3000 Drivers" or "Computer Drivers".Yes, I have that CDPop that CD in and run the install, the thing you want is video drivers.
It should be fairly straightforward to install. Thanks I will give it a try.
