Solve : Problems with windows update?? |
|
Answer» I installed Windows XP Home Edition with SP1 on a brand new home built computer and downloaded the beginning programs, firefox, spyware blaster, etc. and I visited microsoft.com to install all the updates ; SP2 I believe among other things, and when I shut the computer down to finalize the installation of the updates it did not boot back up. It just stays on the Windows XP screen with the moving blue bars then goes black and goes to the first boot screen again. I system restored to before the updates and tried to install them before I installed all my other programs and when I restarted it after the installation it failed to boot up again? Any ideas as to what's happening will be greatly appreciated. Thanks lukeluke...... so two is the limit? No. One is the limit. One licence, one computer. Any more than that and you are breaking the law; plus Microsoft's forthcoming WGA features may be capable of remotely disabling your non-compliant PCs.lukeluke...... LOL ........ Another new XP will solve the issue , simply set the boot sequence to cd-rom 1st boot , put the new XP in the cd drive and reboot the machine ....... it will wipe the drive clean and install the new XP ..... get your updates and your good to go .......... AND .... don't forget your anti virus before you go online for the updates ...... dl65 I don't understand how SP2 could know that XP had been previously installed on another computer. It just doesn't make sense to me and I won't believe it until I see it. Quote I don't understand how SP2 could know that XP had been previously installed on another computer. Agreed. If memory serves me , I SEEM to recall that if you have sp1 and go to MS update site to get sp2 ........ it scans your machine then directs to the express d/l ..... at this time the WGA test must be passed .......... or things will not go as anticipated . So it really isnt SP2 that detects it , but rather WGA. dl65 The sneaky buggers So the trick is to downlaod SP2 as a stand alone update without getting scanned. I got SP2 on a disk from the FRONT of a computer magazine, I put it on my wife's buglab. (laptop) Hmmm Here's the official MS spin on WGA, if anyone is interested: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/WhyValidate.aspx?displaylang=en and http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en Quote The sneaky buggers You can also order the SP2 CD from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx |
