Answer» Hi! I have a computer with XP Pro, and do not have a OS disk, I just recently purchase one and would like to to install some files that I need to use. My problem is the Product number. The product number is different from the newly purchase OS disk with the XP Pro that I have in my computer that I am using now. I cannot use the NEW OS disk, and I get an error MESSAGE stateing that XP disk cannot be used becuse the product number does not match. Does anyone know how I can change the product number in my computer to the new OS disk product number. I really need HELP with this!!! As far as I know - the product number goes in when the OS is installed. The only true way to do it would be to re-install XP pro using the disc. But, if you just want the files, can't you copy them into the other system?Format the drive with a win98 boot disk and re-load the WINXP pro...... itf its a full install disk ,if its an upgrade disk then you have a problem!You might have to save all of your files to a CD or Floppy, Format the HD, and then Install Prorrnbcas...... I must have missed something .......you say you have Win XP pro installed and I assume working ........and yet you have purchased another Win XP Pro ....... I find that a bit odd unless theres something you neglected to include in your post .......
However , it is POSSIBLE to use a key recovery program to retreive your key from your pc .......
let us know,
