This just happened to my friends computer:



He says everything is just .lnk and NONE of the programs work.can we have more INFO?
processor, ram, anti-virus,ect?anti virus is mcafee and its a Pentium 3 processork and ram???He doesn't know.Actually it's 256.yes, so the ram is 256, its a P3 processor, Im Using Ad-Aware and Mcafee and everything is .lnk.

I've tried restoring hte system 3 times. It works for 3 - 5 mins but then everything goes blank again.

I tried reformatting TWICE, and BOOTED from the CD but when i get to the "R=Reparif, F3=New" screen, the Keyboard Freezes and doesn't seem to respond.

This would happen most likely because of a registry error
Or a virus

Do you keep McAfee updated? yea, its my computer, and yes i had it updated, but now its gone,i can't find it anywhere. What happens if you try installing a new program? Does that get turned into a .lnk file too?

And have you tried running any of these programs from C:\Program Files instead of just using their shortcuts in the Start menu?yes, I downloaded MCAFEE again, in a rar file and as soon as i un-rared it, it BECAME .lnk.

And yes, i tried doing C:\program files.. but ti doesn't seem to work, for example i tried opening a song by typing in it's directory and root, and it says this: "The file does not have program associated with it for performing this action. Create and association in Folder Options control panel". Plus the icon for the songs are the WMP icons..

Where are you downloading it from?
If you are "downloading" McAffee as a .rar then it is from some warez site (which we don't help with) and you are probably infected by the many things you get from those sites.Never a truer word spoken...

Looks like it's all making sense now, eh?
