Solve : programs launch slow after reboot? |
|
Answer» StartupLite Download StartupLite by MalwareBytes to your Desktop. Doubleclick StartupLite.exe to launch the program. Ensure the Disable box is checked. Click CONTINUE. A pop up message will tell you the unecessary startup items in your list have been disabled and ask you to restart your computer. Re-start your computer. SuperDave, the only startup I had turned on was AvastUI.exe. The reason I say "had" is because I've got this issue posted on every help forum I could find, and cybertechhelp (same subject title, Malware Removal forum) suggested I uninstall Avast, then reboot. Wonder of wonders! This old pc acts like a new one now, but with NO A/V (scares me). So now I'm looking for a different A/V. Tried Avira, but it took FOREVER for the pc to reboot and was as SLOW, if not slower, than when Avast was installedWindows Defender...effective...and Free. Thanks for the reply patio. I've been all over the web and can't find windows defender xp 32 bit that'll install. They all tell me that I can't install in this VERSION of Windows, even tho they're labeled the aforementioned version.Try MSE...older version... Forgot it was XP...my bad.I use Avira on my XP with no problems except for them trying to get me to upgrade.I've tried Avast, Avira, Panda, and am now giving MSE a try. This old box doesn't like any of them. My PERSONAL XP has about the same specs as this one, except my processor isn't as fast as this one, and, like you, mine handles them all (one at a time, of course) with no problems. SEEMS like something else is "bothering" it, but I can't find out what it is.MSE will not work with XP.SuperDave, MSE is working on this XP machine, but it's still slow as molasses opening/navigating apps, browsers, etc.You were lucky. I couldn't even download it. I wouldn't trust it for XP because it's not getting any updates.Runs fine on my XP rig,,,and still getting updates...manual or scheduled. |
