Answer» I just noticed this yesterday...
I tried to launch AZUREUS, the little HD light spun and spun, nothing happened.
So I tried again. Same results.
So I tried to reboot..... Took FOREVER to shut down (I may have actually had to force it down... I did this a few times don't remember which time I had to force it).
Tried to launch again, nothing - but it did show it was running in Task Manager-Processes.
So I rebooted, ran SpyBot S&D, ran Ad-Aware, ran TweakNow RegCleaner.
I went through all running processes, and all were legit - no malware.
But still same problem.
So I ran Norton GoBack, took it back a day, and it was fine.
Now today, same problem - but with CCleaner not loading. In fact, it is showing in Task Manager - Applications as "Not Responding".
Also, when I hit "Shut Down" last night for the last time, it hung on closing "CCapp.exe", which it will do from time to time. I have fixed that before.
But I hit "End Now", hit the shower, and still hadn't begun the rest of the shut down process - all the icons were still on screen, etc.
Spring allergies???
I've run all the standard diagnostics, right?Use CCleaner as opposed to TweakNow RegCleaner. It's much better. Carry out hard drive diagnostic tests. Carry out memory diagnostic checks. Carry out the procedures listed in this post and post a Hijackthis logfile here when done. If possible, zip the logfile and attach it rather than post it.I think you have that response loaded as a macro!
What specific HD and memory diagnostics do you suggest?
Looking at your highlighted post, I have already done the control panel check, deleted temps, run an AV (Norton), ran Spybot and Ad-Aware (and I use FF, not IE).
The problem this morning was trying to run CCleaner... So I CAN'T run that before posting the Hijack This.
Let me know which diagnostics, and I will get cracking.
Thanks Norton is not a reliable AV utility. Even if it was, it's always wise to crosscheck regularly. The Kaspersky online scanner is excellent but doesn't provide fixes. Panda seems to be a bit temperamental but Trend is OK.
For hard drive diagnostics, check your hard drive manufacturers support area - Most vendors SUPPLY suitable tools. For memory testing, Memtest86 is as good as any and a bootable CD ISO is available. Bootable ISO image Bootable diskette imageWell, I was up til 3 running all those programs... They kept hanging things up, so I'd reboot, wait, run, blahblahblahblah
The online (Karpinksy?) virus scanner found four viruses and I panicked - but they were all in the "Norton Quarantine" DIRECTORIES... So I presume they were viruses that NAV had REMOVED in the past.
The malware scanners found only one thing that was NOT found by Spybot or Ad-Aware - a keylogger I had installed just to see if those two could find a keylogger a while back.
Other than that, every test CAME back clean.
Here is the Hijack This.
One thing that is bugging me is how much my HD light is on... It is flashing like mad now, and FF is the only program actively being used.... And this is the only page open, and it's loaded.
I'm gonna reboot in Safe now and run defrag.
