Answer» Friend's COMPUTER didn't boot. Normal startup and Last Known GC showed only black screen without a dot for minutes and nothing... I have REINSTALLED Win Xp Sp2 on that computer. After formatting NTFS Partition C and installing XP there are question marks next to Other Devices(?!) --Multimedia Audio Contreller(?!) -----PCI Modem(?!) ---------Video COntroler (VGA)(?!) and of course there's no sound, but video exists.
SHouldn't XP recognize them automatically? What are the possible reasons? You need drivers for the sound, modem and video adapter. By default Windows with use a 1 meg PCI EQUIVALENT with a whopping 16 colors. No, Windows will not know what they are on a new install, unless the drivers were widely available before Windows was released (4-5 years ago). Since this is not the case, you will need to identify the components and go find the drivers. (Everest Home Edition at majorgeeks.com)
Do you know the computer or motherboard make/model? the video card? Thanks GX, I knew it was driver just wondered reason. because never happened with me before with XP.
I used everest and know components and found drivers on net. Thought I COULD try sth else from installing driver. I 'll do what you say... You're welcome. Have a merry Christmas!Windows XP doesn't carry drivers for every device that's in existance. You wouldn't want to EITHER, because Windows drivers are horrible.Quote Do you know the computer or motherboard make/model? the video card?
They are SIS. Are they any good? We don't have positive image about SIS here QuoteWindows XP doesn't carry drivers for every device that's in existance. You wouldn't want to either, because Windows drivers are horrible.
lol Is there the specific list that XP supports? I mean drivers. How can one tell for which device XP has built in driver?
Merry Christmas to you all!
Let xp autodetect the device & see if it has drivers for it.
