Solve : Ram and memory problem?

Answer»

I've had problems with my hp laptop since yesterday and its been telling me that I should close the programs (eg. Firefox) I'm running to prevent memory loss. This has never happened before, but I think the defrag I did caused it.

I'm running windows vista and have 1gb ram.

Ive been getting that window each time I use any program Quote from: Mgsxprt on July 20, 2008, 10:47:00 AM

but I think the defrag I did caused it.

What did you do? I assume that the computer was running ok before the defrag?
Any other issues?

I strongly urge you to increase your RAM to 2 GB - this curent problem aside, you will NOTICE an immediate improvement in performance, from startup to SHUTDOWN.

Please list your complete specs and computer model. You may want to try increasing Virtual Memory. Quote

It worked fine before the DEFRAGMENTATION and I had never seen that message even if I had reach its limit before.

The main problem is that it would randomly close the program I'm using. Quote from: drmsucks on July 20, 2008, 11:21:29 AM

Did you have any problems with the defrag? Power interruptions? Were you using the computer during defrag? No downloads or installs? Nothing? Also, CHECK Event Viewer for error information: Start>Control Panel>System & Maintenance>Administrative Tools>double click Event Viewer. Click Applications and Services in left Pane, look for errors that match, by time, the "Close Programs..." warning you receive.

Also, look in Task Manager>Processes, sort by Memory Usage and look for high memory using programs or services.

EDIT: Do a complete shutdown, leave off for 15 sec and re-start.
