Solve : re-booting?

Answer»

windows xp system tries to boot up...but just keeps resetting before it even get's
all the way up..any suggestions?keep hitting f8 while it's booting up and wait until it give you modes to boot up in try safe mode tried that.....doesn't stop it from re-booting and don't have a recovery disc or the orginal cd's either,,,Does it give you any message along? Something like a blue screen appearing with a warning message and then immediate reboot, or something like a message saying "bad boot file - system 32"...something like that? In that case you may have corrupted the system files for windows. You need to either repair the boot file, or install a fresh copy of OS.no blue screen...how do I ACCESS the boot file? and do what from there?

Ummmmm....it's F8.The way I used to go around it, is to insert my Windows XP disk and run the setup programme from it. From there I entered the "repair mode". Go here for more information. http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm.

Repair mode lets you enter the Command Prompt and you can use a specific list of commands that the repair mode allows you and add a new boot definition. Before doing that, whenever I got that bad boot message, the only way around it was to install a fresh windows copy but this way you can simply add a new boot file and bypass the problem. Have a look at the website to get more info.At what POINT does it reboot? When you TAP F8 and get to the alternative boot screen, try "disable restart on error"I don't have a start up disc or the windows xp cd because the computer was given to us....what would happen if I used the start up disc from a toally diffrent computer system?should dbe fine as long as you do not install from itQuote from: gatorsdogs on September 07, 2009, 11:55:40 AM

It would have to be a Microsoft XP CD and the VERSION and installed Service Packs must match...
An OEM CD such as Compaq; Hp Acer etc. will NOT work.Quote from: patio on September 09, 2009, 07:32:02 AM
