Answer» lanejr......Go to the windows update page http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/default.aspx?ln=en-us ......when the page opens....go over to the left side and click on ....View installation history. Look to see if SP2 has been installed..... KB888162 is not SP2. If you tried to D/L SP2 and it failed ( you should know that) there are other issues. Is your XP ....home or Pro and is it a legal copy ? Here is the link to KB888162...... http://search.microsoft.com/search/results.aspx?st=b&na=88&View=en-us&qu=KB888162 let us know
dl65 I THOUGHT of suggesting that you get together with the guy who can't uninstall SP2 and see if you can WORK out a deal between you.
But seriously, it is better to do a clean install now that SP2 is here and all you NEED to do is to slipstream your XP CD with the SP2 update and make a new XPSP2 CD USING the freeware program AutoStreamer 1·0
Quote i have 4 updates that always fail to install. at one time i had a message about cryptographic services, but it seemed to be enabled. i think one is sp2. here are some numbers if they help. kb888162
Enable automatic updates if you have not yet done so.
Is your copy of Windows XP legal?
