Solve : Re-install Windows XP? |
|
Answer» I have a Dell Dimension Desktop. I received a new DISK from Dell because the old one was scratched. (My old cd had service pack 1a on it; the new one has service pack 2.) After booting from cd, when I go to DELETE the partition that the old copy of XP is on, it tells me it won't delete it because setup files are needed on it. So then, I go ahead & install it on that partition. The new Xp installation still has the old stuff all on it. (My SON has already tried this several times, so I think it has 4 installations of xp on it.) It has an 80 gb hard drive, but after the install, it has only 20 available. How do I get these old xp installations off, & do a clean install? Maybe it's because of the difference in the 2 cds, but I have never had this trouble before! It also has an 8gb partition that it won't let me delete because it is Dell's. Do you think this is a recovery partition?get on another computer and download some software. burn that software to a disk and boot from that CD and re-partion that hard drive without USING dells stupid disk. that software MIGHT be hard to find but you can do it. once that drive is completely blank install a totally new system with the disk dell gave you. |
