Solve : Rebuilding Problems?

Answer»

Ok, Im trying to rebuild a computer for the 1st time, and Im having some problems.

I replaced the MoBo with a Soltek SL-K8TPro-939, put on a AMD 3200+, and 2 sticks of 512MB pc3200 ram. I kept my old case, hard drive, cd/dvd and floppy.

I've got the hardware installed, and when I start the computer, it passed the memory check, shows all the drives, then flashes the Microsoft windows logo for a millisecond, then a blue screen with 3 paragraphs of text. Then the system re-boots and it does it all over again. The last screen is so fast I can't MAKE out any of the writting.

Any Suggestions? Hints?

BTW: it's Windows XP with sp2

Thanks!Reinstall Windows on this hardware. Just swapping in a drive from a previous system seldom works well.http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q322205Tarmac......... GX1_Man ......is 100% correct , you have a totally differant mobo and CPU and ram ....
You will have to reinstall the operating system and then your on your way .

Bios boot set -up wrong.......Can you GET into safe mode delete all your old drivers and re-boot to install new ones?

ANYONE know if this is possible?I think that would be his best possible chance Mac.
I hope he tries it so we can find out. Quote

Exactly!

It would be interesting to know.

Looks like new partitions and a clean install though.
Ok, Im up and running! I re-installed windows, and everything is A-OK.

Thanks for the advice!

One wierd thing, when I was trying to boot up from the floppy, it was giving me the option to boot from the hard drive, CD or floppy. It asked me to select 1, 2, or 3, but my USB port keyboard wouldn't work (the same thing happened when I tried to get into safe-mode). I had to dust off the old PS-2 keyboard to make the CHOICE.

Again, thanks.

BTW: the new rig is FAST!Tarmac...Quote

That's because at that point you had no USB drivers installed .

Glad to hear things are working well.

dl65 Another reason to always have a PS2 keyboard lying around...
