Answer» Hello, I just bought a used COMPUTER with Windows XP Pro. I had the computer guy install my old hard drive as a slave unit. I moved the files off of the old drive that I wanted to keep and deleted everything else.
When I tried to format the slave drive, windows just says "Unable to format. Drive E: can't be formatted". I'm just going to use this drive for extra storage and to store a backup copy of Windows. How do I format USING ms-dos? and will Norton Ghost work for making a backup? Is it a FAT based drive? If so, boot via a diskette, Fdisk and format it. Be very careful that you don't operate on your boot drive. Unplug the power and DATA cables if you're uncertain. Ghost will work just fine in that configuration. You might try starting the format command from a Command Prompt WINDOW, opened via Start, All Program, Accessories, Command Prompt. Type: format e: and HIT Enter.
