Solve : reformatting flash drive?

Answer»

i can't format my flash drive on mycomputer WINDOW error cannot complete formattingWe need more information.Try it thru Disk Management...
Right click My Computer and select Manage and then Disk Management.
Post back if this doesn't do it...Bit short on info here.

Does this card function PREVIOUSLY? Camera or as USB stick?

I just yesterday formatted an SD successfully but have had two instances with flash items where formatting would not complete and the REASON I decided was that the card/stick was faulty.

IMO - every single ''gate'' within the chip must be viable or seemingly the formatting process cannot complete - even tho sometimes it would appear the device can still function - maybe because a portion is useable enough. If we ASSUME that the flash drive is 100% healthy, could it be that (knowingly or unknowingly) you are trying to reformat it in NTFS format?

If you want it to be NTFS you cannot use the standard Format shortcut. You have a couple of OPTIONS, that I am aware of. Either you can open a command prompt window and use the Convert command (which will preserve your data) or, if you go to the HP website, you can download a free utility which will format flash drives as NTFS.
