Answer» i recently purchased a HP notebook 6600 series and it came with vista home PREMIUM. i am very unhappy with vista, my desktop HP has XP on it. i was told i could install XP on the notebook pc just by reformatting (using xp disk) it. is this true? other problem i have with vista is. i have set up my screen SAVER, checked for it to come on after 10 minutes of inactivity and all that other stuff. but my screen saver never comes on. i have left my lap top on overnight and when i went to look at it. it still SHOWED my desktop. screensaver never comes on. what gives?Yes, you can reformat and install XP. However you must have drivers for the hardware for XP. Right now you have drivers for Vista, not XP. Go the the manufacturers site and see if any are available before you reformat and reinstall.
