Solve : Reinstall Vista?

Answer»

OK so i have my toshiba laptop, which was preloaded with Vista Home Premium. I have a copy of Vista Home Premium OEM. Can I use a different OEM disc and use it for the toshiba laptop? As long as I use the product key that came with the laptop? No.
OEM dvd's will only load on the brand machine they were created for...
There are of course exceptions to this but most times the install will HALT at some time and let you go no further.
The bad part of this is now your data is gone.

Contact Toshiba and request a factory Restore DVD...WELL, it was an OEM i purchased from NEWEGG, so it wasnt specific for any brand computer. I wanted to use the purchased one on my toshiba.Okay, something just got lost in translation...

Lets say it this way.

OEM Disc - Normal copy from Newegg

Manufacture Disk - Install disc for that machine (Ex. - Dell Vista Install Disk / HP Windows XP install disk)

An OEM disk from Newegg can install on any machine, so long as you have the PROPER drivers to install later.

A manufacture disk usually only works on that brand of computer, since the special drivers all built into it,and will install themselves when you install Windows. Normally you can't install a Dell version on a HP, but sometime it might work.

UPDATE: Let me point out the OEM is a manufacture disk, but it can be a bit confusing talking about. For the time being, I would suggest we talk about the issue this way.Ok.

I DO NOT have any manufacturer DISCS. What I am doing is I am reinstalling vista on the toshiba laptop with an OEM disc from newegg. What I am asking is if I can actually use this disc, but with the product key that had come with the laptop. I already used the product key that came with the disc on my desktop, so I wanted to really know if I could use this OEM disc and use the product key that came with the toshiba. Hope I cleared it up lolNevermind, now I know it DOES work. Just re-activated. Thanks for the help guys
