Answer» I had a virus in the boot sector. I tried to reinstall xp but got a 0x0...7b blue screen after drivers were loaded and setup was about to begin. I used a boot UTILITY and FORMATTED the entire drive. Now, I still get the blue screen at the same place. Do I need to write a new boot sector from a boot disc somehow? Thanks.Boot Sector Viruses are very rare. But if indeed you did have one you are BEST off doing a LOW LEVEL format, then reinstalling the OS. Having said that, if the drive is a SATA drive you need to install the SATA driver before the actual INSTALLATION routine can begin. You'll see the option to press F6 to load those drivers right after you boot to the XP Cd.
