Specs

Cpu- Intel core 2 duo (2.8 GHZ) per core
Windows Xp Proffesional (5.1, build 2600)

Thanks for the help in advance.Did you reinstall your motherboard and video drivers? These can be found on the Dell site.

Did you format the drive during the reinstall or what?

What are you using for virus/spyware protection? Was all of this loaded BEFORE you even connected the cable to the internet? Thanks for the reply.

Reinstalled all drivers found on the resource cd with the computer,
I think i formated the drive i deleted the old partion and made a new one.
Using Norton antivirus and spyware, also installed iolo systemmechanic installed immediately after
installation it found that major system CLUTTER although that could be from my inexperience, i didnt notice lag after installation but before i downloaded service pack two. I've never HEARD of or used System Mechanic...but a quick search found This less than glowing review...
You might want to try the machine without it for comparitive purposes...

For example it shouldn't have shown this right after a clean install....i would be wary....After uninstall same high cpu usage and lag. Dang sho;uld have read reviews though a best buy person directed it toward me.... i am going to try uninstalling service pack two.Quote

This is not a good idea...

Are you sure you are looking at CPU usage and not processes usage ? ?

Best Buy probably recommended it to keep the Geek Squad busy.unusally high cpu usage, before i reinstalled xp had same running reprocesses and didnt slow it down one bit its a pretty high powered processor not the bleeding edge but....

Do a COLD boot...wait two minutes then take a screenshot of all your running tasks and post it here.
