Solve : Reinstalling programs??

Answer»

I recently had to reinstall windows.
everything is working smoothly, exept a few little things.
I have alot of programs already installed and taking up space and most of them refused to work now that windows has been reinstalled. What i want to know, is there any program or command i can use to reinstall a program on this new windows installation?

ThanksNo, you must reinstall the program from Add/Remove Programs or look for an uninstaller that came with the program. You will see it when opening Start/Programs.

BTW - you don't say how big the hard drive is, how much RAM you have and what operating system you've installed. So, you did not format your hard drive and do a fresh installation of Win XP. Is that right?

Anyway, if the programs you had installed prior to reinsalling Windows are not working, you'll need to reinstall them. Surely, you know how to do that, since you must have installed them at one time. Yes? No?Quote from: ale52 on May 07, 2007, 01:05:56 PM

Hey Alan, you're saying he would go to Add/Remove Programs to reinstall a program. Right? So, he can't reinstall a program by INSERTING the CD in a CD drive and let auto-run start the installation? Soybean,
"Hey Alan, you're saying he would go to Add/Remove Programs to reinstall a program. Right?" Yes, he could go to A/R Programs to reinstall.

"So, he can't reinstall a program by inserting the CD in a CD drive and let auto-run start the installation?" Yes again.

I was addressing this issue:
"What i want to know, is there any program or command i can use to reinstall a program on this new windows installation?" I MADE the assumption that he had UNINSTALLED some applications because of the "...taking up space..." comment he made.

Alan <>< So, the question remains, "can't he reinstall a program by inserting the CD in a CD drive and let auto-run start the installation?" Thanks guys, I'll just take that as a no then. basicly, i just couldnt be bothered redownloaded 1 gig files for my (free) games, and alot of programs, oh well.

And yes, i can install programs, thanks.Just so you understand the underlying problem here, most programs make changes to Windows Registry during installation. When you reinstall Windows, you need to reinstall the programs again so the registry gets UPDATED, just as it was when you originally installed the programs. Another good reason why a decent imaging program BEATS the heck out of a re-install...
