Solve : reinstalling windows me?

Answer»

I want to reinstall windows me on my computer because it has been acting so weird lately and everything I have tried has not done anything. I place the system restoration kit disk in and follow the directions(restart my computer)and a menu is supposed to come up asking if i want to reinstall windows. This window isn't coming up and I have tried everything! Please help me!Racerchick:

Is the system restoration CD for a Dell, Gateway, Compaq, HP, or some other computer?  LET us know which one.

Does the CD have a the computer manufacturer's name or logo on it, or does it have the Microsoft logo and name on it.  What do the instructions on the CD say is the way to reinstall?

DocYou may wish to set your cdrom as first boot in bios. Quote

the system restoration is for a gateway computer and it say's gateway on it,not microsoft. All the cd says on it is to put the cd into the drive, restart the computer, and follow the onscreen instructions, which are not coming up.

yes my computer is a Gateway. You should be OK as long as this is the same machine that came with that CD. Have you tried asking Gateway for help? Are you the original owner?Racer Chick:

You will need to change the BIOS setting to boot to the CD-ROM drive BEFORE it boots to the hard drive.

On the Gateway display that appears when you first start your computer, look for the words, "Press XX key to enter SETUP" or something like that where XX stands for the key you have to press.

I have a Gateway PC that ORIGINALLY came with Windows Me and i think it was the Del key, but yours may be different.  Once the BIOS setup is displayed (it will be a text-only display with white text on a colored background) follow the instructions on the display to switch from page to page TILL you find the page where you may change the boot order.  Follow the instructions to change the boot order to boot to the CD-ROM drive FIRST.  Then save the changes and exit (probably by pressing the F10 key).

Now, when you start your computer and put in the CD, the system restoration should start.  Make sure you put in the CD marked number one, first.
