Solve : remote desktop and remote assistance?

Answer»

My desktop is a Compaq Presario with XP HOME SP3. My laptop is a Dell Vostro 1000  with Windows 7. I have checked both computers to allow remote desktop and remote assistance. I can remote into my laptop from my desktop but I can't remote from the laptop into my desktop. I turned the firewall off on my laptop but STILL couldn't remote into the desktop. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this problem. Are both machines firewalls off? When you try to remote do you send a request to the other machine? What EXACTLY HAPPENS?
I have heard of issues with remote assistance between Windows 7\ Vista and XPWindows XP has this known compatibility issue with 7. You could try to send an invitation file from XP to 7. The invitation has been known to fail as well specifically when trying to connect through SNMP devices. You can use alternative connection methods like VNC or Logmein.com. If you are on the same network VNC is great and free too. If you will be on the road with the laptop I would recommend Logmein.com or some other web based service. There is also TeamViewer...

Very true, but the free version eventually calls you out and the Pro version is very costly. Quote

It pops up messages that says you need to pay for the program and then disconnects for 2 minutes.
