Answer» I'm setting up a second user in Windows XP. I want to customize the desktop for that user. I cannot delete icons from the desktop.
I get an error: Error Deleting File or Folder. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.
Suggestions? How are you TRYING to delete the icons? And do you have administrative privileges in that account?Just deleting the shortcut by dropping in recycle bin. Administrative privileges.Try deleting by:
1) right-click on icon and choose "delete" or 2) go to \Documents & Settings\username\desktop and try to delete from there
what happens?Right-click didn't work. Actually, I didn't add a NEW user, I changed the NAMES of the two users already setup. When I go to Documents and Settings, the old names are still there. Maybe that has something to do with it?You cannot change the names in Documents & Settings. You can create new usernames and copy everything from the old user folders, but you can't actually change the old names to the new ones in that folder. Anyway, did you try to delete the icons from the "old" usnername folder in Windows Explorer? There were only a couple of the icons from the old username and I was able to delete them there. There are others I'd like to delete but don't know where they're at.They are in \documents and settings\???username (possibly "all users")\desktop
check all the user desktop foldersOk, thanks so much. One more Q: If I remove a program from Add or Remove Programs from one user, does it delete it from the computer for both users? If you UNINSTALL a program you are uninstalling it from your computer, so YES - it's gone for everyone.
