Answer» Hello everyone,
I had problems before with my internet logging off it seemed everyday for a little while. It would give me some error message about another IP on my address or something like that. Well maybe this doesn't mean anything, but when I right CLICK on my connection icon and check the network connection details status, it always tells me that say lease obtained 12/21/2005 3:30 AM, and then lease expires at 12?22/2005. To me it seems that everyday at the time when it expires it gives me these problems. Can someone explain this to me or tell me why my lease expires everyday? I live in an apartment w/ 2 FRIENDS and we have a cable router and we each have wireless cards to connect to this router if that information is important or not.if i were u i wud phone up the company who u GOT broadband from... they always fix my internet problems
[glb]FireChaser[/glb]What kind of router are you connected to? Was it SUPPLIED by your ISP? Your computer should talk to the router and the router to your ISP. If you are getting a 24 hour lease, it should be coming from your router, not your ISP. Now, if your ISP is giving you a 24 hour lease, that will be negotiated between the ISP server and your router and technically should be invisible to your computer. You need ACCESS to your router to see if it is set up to renew the IP every 24.If you have access to the routers configuration, lease time should be set to 0. You will still see the lease time as 24 hours but a setting of 0 is esssentially a no expiring lease. It will renew if you shut down and restart your computer but should automatically renew otherwise. You can also use ipconfig from the command prompt to release or renew the IP. ipconfig/release all will release everything and ipconfig/renew all will renew everything. If you are using win9x, you can use start/run/winipcfg and click your option with the mouse.
