Im following the steps on About.com (poor relatives, if they only knew ) Bros pc is USED and he has no recovery disk. I have a new Xp pro disk SP2 ..can I use it to do repair install on his sp3 machine? can I use a new disk at all ? thanksrepair install http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm If I were you I do a clean install. Does the computer have a product key sticker on it? Don't worry if it doesn't have a product key, if it still boots we can find out what it is. Yes, there's a sticker on it and it will boot ..doing a clean install was my first thought ..However i thought i would try to save his installed programs SINCE some nice ones came installed when he bought it and he has no disks for those either Well then... http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htmThanks for the link think i'll try it 2moro .. let you know how i make outNo. You can not use an SP2 disk to repair an SP3 installation. You can, however, create an sp3 slipstream cd (see the nlite site).Pay close attention to the warnings at the end of the INSTRUCTIONS... Print out a copy for reference before you start. |
