Answer» Having aproblem with RUNTIME ERROR 217 ,I noticed recently some of my video files are causing Runtime error 217 but I don't EVEN have to click on them even if I just open the folder with the video files is causes the error.
I get 3 boxes the 1ST in the top Blue line says"Microsift Visual C++ Runtime Library" Runtime Error! Program C:/Windows\explorer.exe This program has requested the Runrime to terminate it in an unusal way Please contact the application support for more information.
Then if I hit OK I get another box and lose all desktop Icons )
in top Blue line "The Exeception Unknown Software Exeception (0x0eefade) occurred in the applicatuon at 0x7c81eb33.
if you hit the "OK" anothert small box comes up in Blueline "ERROR !"
Runtime ERROR 217 at 0136eaea" Hit OK
Window desktop REFRESHED ,Icons comes back.
If you don't Hit "OK" in the 1st Box you can run the Video files without problem only accepted by certain files,If you convert the problem files to say PSP MP4 format don't get the error??
I.ve also went to the Microsoft Knowledge Base and it says something about a Hotfix for this error but I couldn't find where to download it :-?
Any Ideas how to solve this problem???
Thanks in Advancehello..
have you done SPYWARE scans anti-virus scans?
and when you do thens scans do them in safe mode with the system restore turned off..
then report back to here the results.. also give some specs on your current machine.. when the problem occurred? does it do it randomly or all the time?
and a expert will review your problem shortly
unlovedwarriortry renameing the folder.. if that doesnt work then try moving the files to a different location..ummm.. try googleing for the hotfix and put a link to the base for me to look atone of the Video Files in that folder has a codex that windows doesn't support in the Preview panel.
Turn off thumbnail View in that folder set it to list or Details, then tell me if the problem is STILL thereI don't know of a Fix for the Problem, all i know is a workaround...
Don't try to open the Files you want with windows, instead open them from inside media player / winamp / real player / quick time /BS player / Media Player Classic ...
