Answer» Hi, I've been having problems with a slow COMPUTER, especially since downloading SP2. After downloading, I didn't have much disk space left to defrag. Uninstalled a few programs. Also, downloaded a registry cleaning application. My computer is still running slow. The registry staff got back to me and wanted to me to go into safe mode and followed about 25 different steps, which I was outraged about since I ordered their appl. to help clean up and speed up my computer, which it didn't do. Anyway, after thinking about it for a while, I thought I would check it out. When I went into safe-mode, it keep telling me that there was a problem on my computer, e.g., applications error, perhaps a virsus, etc., it kept kicking me back to running the computre normally. So, how can I get into safe-mode. If safe-mode is working, I'm thinking there is definitely a serious problem? Any suggestions or thoughts? Thanks.
Still would like to know what could be causing safe-mode from finishing up, it keep kicking me back to normal mode. Thanks.OS is Windows XP, correct?
How much disk space do you have free exactly?
And what antivirus protection do you have?
Did the issue start directly after installing SP2? Or was it a little while after?
Press ALT+CTRL+DEL, and click "Performance" and tell us what it says for your RAM usageA Registry tool won't do much to speed up performance and especially not if you are low on disk space.whats the programs name?Yes, I have XP Home Edition. My disk space is now 3.81 GB; CPU [email protected]%; and my computer started slowing up almost immediately. Someone mentioned it might just be Explorer 7's fault. My antivirus protection is Spysweeper. The registry is registryfix and I also downloaded XP medic, which was the first program I downloaded. It didn't do anything to speed up my computer, and after five emails for help, and not an answer to any of them; I then downloaded registry ???fix. At least they answered my email, and wanted me to go into safe mode, which as I mentioned is not working correctly!
Thanks.Spysweeper is not a Virus Protection program, its an Adware and Spyware protection program. Check this out: HTTP://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html When you install it, have it do a boot-time scan (when it asks if you want to or not) and if it detects anything, quarinteen the file. What RAM (Memory) usage do you have going right now? You posted your CPU usage.
Hi, Not that computer literate; I know that RAM is memory. Is it the FP usage, or Physical or kernel memory, commit charge? Actually, spysweeper has now added antivirus protection included in the spyware program. Thxs
Spysweeper: Did you UPGRADE to the Antivirus version? (for sure, just checking)
If so, then you might still want to use a SECONDARY scanner, since a virus may have been built to bypass yours. Since its a very bad idea to install two antivirus protection programs at once, I suggest that you try an online scanner, like this one: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Memory: How about your paging file (PF) usage, and physical memory usage? The PF is 298 MB; Physical total: 260076; available 107740, system cache 103825. The computer came with penicil-in, something like that, I uninstalled it because of the antivirus from spysweeper. The below 2 are free and they work great. All I use is AVG.

Streets suggestions are excellent BTW.
