Answer» I have a thinkpad T60p, windows xp sp2.
I have the option to safely the HL-DT-ST DVDRAM, or Drive D:, which i never understood why. Can i get rid of this? Everything works, the drive reads cds fine, but it just seems strange that i should be able to "safely remove it".First thing to try... Download, and install CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds. Get "Slim" version. Read CCleaner instruction here: http://www.jahewi.nl/ccleaner/ccleaner.html, and RUN CCleaner While running CCleaner, MAKE sure, you have a checkmark in Old prefetch data under Advanced section.
Restart computer, and SEE if DVD drive is still listed in "Safely remove hardware". I assume, it's internal drive?
If that doesn't help, registry edit is needed. Download ListUsbDrives: http://www.uwe-sieber.de/files/listusbdrives.zip Unzip, and double click on ListUsbDrives_To_Notepad.cmd file. NOTEPAD will open with all of your USB devices listed. Copy all text, and paste it in your reply.
